Go Polar! Ice, Polar Bears and Cool Science in the Arctic Ocean
John C. Wells Planetarium at James Madison University, Harrisonburg VA, USA
Douglas Williams, a professor emeritus at the University of South Carolina and known as "Dr. Doug", discussed the science of the Arctic and how changes there affect the rest of the world, in a public lecture that kicked off a weekend of events and the opening of Ice Worlds. Childrens' activities including an experiment looking at properties of ice and water, took place throughout the weekend.

Polar Weekend
Carnegie Museum of Natural History, Pittsburgh PA, USA
Ice Worlds was shown throughout the day along with a lecture by glaciologist Mark Fahnestock and a special phone call from Siberia with scientists from the Woods Hole Oceanic Institute studying carbon in the Lena River as part of research begun during the IPY. Childrens' activities took place throughout the day.

Ice Worlds was shown throughout the day during this special 10th Anniversary Geo-Spatial Science Conference and College Fair that is also showcasing a NASA 50th Anniversary photographic exhibition!

Ice Worlds was presented 5 times along with demonstrations of an ice core and discussions with a researcher on past changes in ice and water on Earth. Koda the Arctic fox was there for the kids and everyone learned how to make a "comet-in-a-bag"!
